What is your sport of choice? With the arrival of the Atlanta United FC in our beloved city, many more people are choosing soccer as their favorite sport. Who is your favorite soccer player? Does midfielder Miguel Almiron ever stop wowing us with his soccer skill and his perpetual smile? Georgia Spinal Health and Wellness would like to welcome The Atlanta Untied FC to our city.
The rise in interest in the sport will likely cause there to be a rise in the number of soccer related injuries in our city. There are many common soccer injuries that will not require surgery. However, there are two common soccer injuries that typically need surgery.
ACL Tear – The Anterior Cruciate Ligament tear is most common with soccer players due to the necessary quick directional changes. They also can land awkwardly or experience a knee knock. Female soccer players seem to be at a higher risk due to differences in estrogen levels making joints looser. There is usually a popping sound associated with an ACL injury.
Meniscus Tear – Your knee has two cartilages or menisci. The medial meniscus is more commonly injured in the sport of soccer. The twisting motion while running or directional changes will cause an injury. The tear can happen during a collision with a player during a tackle as well. Players usually express that they heard a cracking or popping sound upon injury.
